Professional Electrical Firing Equipment

To have an electrically fired profession firework display you are going to need some equipment. I have found three electrical firing systems (EFS), for a reasonable price. The first EFS that I am going to talk about is by ODA Enterprises and the second one is by Pyromate. While you could build your own cheaper, these systems offer safety features not available in a home built box. Another nice feature about these systems is the ability to test for continuity in your wiring.

ODA Enterprises

10 Cue Electrical Firing System

The picture on the left is ODA Enterprises's 10 cue electrical firing systems. This device is what controls when each e-match will be ignited. The dial in the center of the firing system controls which cue you wish to fire. Some of the safety features that I like with this system over a homemade systems is the ARM/TEST switch. This allows you to test your wiring skills before your show to make sure that everything is wired correctly. Also while the system is set to TEST the system can not accidentally ignite any e-matches. The other safety feature of this device is the FIRE/OFF switch, while this button is in the off position the devise cannot ignite any e-matches. This device gives you 2 levels of protection from accidental ignition. Each cue on this systems can fire 25-30 matches wired in series. On the top of the device there is a connector for a DB25F connector to attach a cable that will run to the slat. This device is powered by a single 'C' cell battery.
The firing system to the left is also made by ODA Enterprises. This electrical firing systems contains 50 cues. This device is just like their 10 cue system, in that Every 10 cues has there own DB25F connection. This firing system gives you 5 different slats that you can connect to giving you more total cues. Instead of the rotary switch used in their 10 cue system, this one use 50 toggle switches to tell the FIRE button which cue to fire next. This device uses two 4-way binding posts for the power source, with a 9 volt battery for the continuity testing.

50 Cue Electrical Firing System

10 Position Slat

The device to the left is ODA Enterprises's 10 position slat. This part of the electrical firing system comes in two different forms, a 10 position series slat, and a regular 10 position slat. These slats let you easily attach e-matches or lead wires to the firing system. The numbers on the slat corresponds with the position of the cue on the electrical firing systems. For example if you wanted to fire a device that was connected to slot 10, with the 10 cue electrical firing unit you would turn the dial to position 10. Turn on the electrical firing system.  Flip the ARM/TEST switch to the ARM position. Finally you would flip the FIRE/OFF switch to the FIRE position, and enjoy the show.

For a complete system made by ODA Enterprises you are looking at spending around $250.00 for a basic systems that would include the 10 cue firing systems, 10 position slat, and the cable to connect the slat to the electrical firing system.

Pyromate

This electrical firing system is a complete all-in-one package. This systems contains 12 cues, and is very similar in the way it operates to the 10 cue ODA Enterprises version. Pyromate has many different sized electrical firing systems that are available. This system can fire over 200 e-matches of 12 different cues. All you have to do to wire your display electrically with this systems is to run all of your leads back to the firing unit.  The picture shown is Pyromate's Black Magic II and costs $379.00, they have a single unit that retails for $179.00 called Black Magic.
