Guide to Placement
of Items on the Field
Placement of items on the field deals with setting up your show how the
professionals do it. This setup works the best if you are in an open area
where you can spread items out, and have them all ready setup. If you are
limited to a confined area or a space where it is not possible to setup a
lot of items, this won't work well for you.
Firework Fallout
With all aerial fireworks you are going to have small remnants of the
shells, cake inserts, rocket sticks, and other debris that doesn't burn up
has to fall somewhere. This is the first factor you have to take into
consideration when it comes to placing your racks, cakes, and other firework
devices on the field. Try to determine where you audience is going to be
located, and the direction the wind is blowing. If your audience is sitting
where the wind is blowing towards either move your audience to another
location, if possible, or have them move back farther. If those two options
are possible try to angle your racks and other devices so that they are
pointing slightly away from your audience. You don't want to have any debris
fall on your audience. If the winds are very strong you might want to
consider delaying or canceling your show till there are better firing
conditions.
Please let there be order!
The typical way that a professional display is setup is in the following
order. Going from closest to audience and back. The first type of fireworks
that are normally towards the front are you roman candles and your
fountains. The next item to be setup will be your cakes. Finally the items
to be setup and farthest from the audience is the mortar racks and rocket
racks.
Why this order of items
The fireworks are setup in this order for safety reasons. If something
should happen accidentally there are some items that can cause seriously
more damage if they were closer, than if they set them back. The rule of
thumb for deciding where to put something is by how high an item goes up,
and size. The items that have the furthest range would be in the back, while
low level items would be toward the front.
What if everyone is around me where I setting of my display
If everyone will be around where you are setting off your display. Try
to get the items light mortar racks so that they are the farthest from most
of the people. Remember to use the proper way to setup mortars racks so if
it should happen to tip over that it won't be shooting shells at the
majority of people. After you place the mortar racks start working your way
do to cakes, rockets, roman candles, fountains.
