Storage Of Mortar Shells During The
Display
Imagine this scenario, you are lighting your fireworks
display. The mortar shells that will be used later in the show are sitting
in the container that they came in with there fuses exposed. A hot ash
from an item still burning falls into the box of all of the shells and
starts to light all of them. You might think that this scenario
could never happen, think again it has. If you could picture a war zone
that is what your firing area just turned into. On of the biggest problems
with doing your display is trying to safely store shells that will be used
later in the show. You might think to yourself why don't you just put them
farther away, from the firing area. Depending on the number of shells that
you have this might work but imagine if you had 100 or more. You better be
in good shape for all of the running that you will be doing. Ideally you
want to have them as close to the firing area as possible for ease of
loading the mortar. This section is going to discuss ways of storing
mortar shells closely to where they are being fired from.
The first techniques to use is a wooden boxes. I have two
wooden boxes that I use, the original use of the wooden boxes was to store
ammunition. It makes a very good on the field storage container. The
wooden box has two handles and a lid, to make sure that now sparks can get
into the container. This wooden box held 100 mortar shells in it. I will
be adding plans for the mortar boxes that I build at a later time.
Also available at stores like Walmart and Target are heavy duty
plastic storage containers that will also work but I would only
recommend use for consumer shells and not the larger display shells. I
will have the plans to shell boxes that you can build by the next 4th
of July. |
