Rocket Techniques
Rockets are like roman candles and fountains, by
only doing one at a time these types of firework are really impressive
when you compare them to other types of fireworks that you are using in
your show. To improve the impact of rockets during your firework display
follow these techniques to wow your audience.
Ways to launch rockets
While most people use either copper or PVC pipe to launch their
rockets, I designed two different rocket racks to hold either medium or
large rockets. The benefit of these racks is that I can have 30 rockets
ready on the medium rack and 15 on the large rack, this allows a larger
number of rockets to be lit at the same time producing a bigger effect.
You could try to simulate the rack with multiple copper or PVC launchers
but you still could not easily get the number of rockets that a rack could
hold easily any other way. The other benefit of rocket racks over
individual launchers is that they are easier to see at night in low light
so you don't have to worry about running into something. |

When to use rockets?
When selecting rockets try to find some that produce nice effects.
Two rockets that I am going to use for my 2004 show were Ring Shell Rockets
by Black Cat and World Class, and Thunder Sticks by Phantom Fireworks.
Thunder Sticks produce a loud titanium flash and boom for their size and
the ring shell rockets produce beautiful rings. In this case these effect
are no where else in my show therefore I can use the rockets any time. If
playing music and the climax of the song is coming this is where rockets
can help portray that. Rockets can be used to help get your show
from the ground to the sky as a nice transition piece. Rockets don't
always have to be launch with only other rockers if their effects will be
see with other items such as mortar shells. These two rockets are a great
example of what can be shot with other larger aerial items. If you are
playing with 8oz. rockets or other smaller rockets they should definitely
launched by them self or with larger rockets, but only with rockets.
Number of Rockets
Depending on the size of the rockets will determine how many to
launch at one time. The larger the rocket you want to launch fewer at a time, the smaller
the rocket the more at a time. It helps to have a rocket rack to easily
launch numerous rockets at a time.
Techniques to improve Rockets
While I think a bunch of rockets look great by themselves these are a few
techniques that can really make this type of firework more impressive.
Fountains
Fountains are very versatile when it comes to what they can go with , they
can be lit while almost any other type of firework are going off, and help
improve in. Fountains with rockets produce a low level entertainment while
the rocket is going up, and once the rocket burst your attention is drawn
up until the effect faded away and then your attention is back on the
ground at the fountain until the next one goes up. Back to Advance Techniques |
