Different Styles of Firecrackers

Years ago there were basically a few types of firecrackers, however today there are many different styles of firecrackers available to the consumer. This article is meant for someone who is completely new to consumer fireworks or someone that is unfamiliar with the different styles of firecrackers. Note: Never hold and light firecrackers in your hand. Also it is not recommend to take apart strings of firecrackers, the paper fuses burn faster than the green visco fuse.

Lady Fingers
Lady fingers are 3/4" in length firecrackers. These firecrackers are on strings normally packaged 40/12. They also come in other string counts like the ones in the picture to the left.

1 1/2" Firecracker
These are probably the most popular type of firecrackers out there. All of these firecrackers are and 1 1/2" or 1 5/8" in length. These come in either 1/2 brick(40pks) or a full brick (80pks.) for individual packs of 16 on a string. When looking at a brick of firecrackers there are numbers on the package somewhere that look something like these: 10/200, 40/16, 80/16. What these numbers mean is how the firecrackers are packaged in the brick. The first number represents the number of individual strings of firecrackers, and the last number is the number of individual firecrackers on that string. So, 10/200 would be 10 packs of 200 firecrackers.

M-5000, M-98
These look like very powerful oversized firecrackers. Don't let looks fool you into thinking that these are louder than regular 1 1/2" firecrackers. This have more of a "pop" sound than a crisp bang sound to them. All firecrackers have the same amount of powder in them. Great for when you just want to light one or two at a time, each has a green visco fuse.

Water Firecrackers
Water firecrackers are relatively a new type of firecracker within the past three years. Both World Class and Black Cat have there own versions, 100 individual firecrackers per box, with a green Visco fuse. The nice thing about these as opposed to trying to separate the strings of firecrackers is that the fuses are slower burning and they are a lot less of a hassle.  These are also waterproof so for some extra fun through them into a pond, stream, whatever you can think of. Warning: Not recommended for toilets, will break them.

Head Bombs
You can find Head Bombs on the top of celebration firecracker strings. World Class has a bunch of items that are made to look like sticks of dynamite, called Dyno-Mighty-Mite, this item has 300 firecrackers that are setup to go off around the same time. This year I came across another type of head bomb that looked like a oversized M-5000 firecracker.
