Roman Candle Rack
Fusing Techniques
Roman Candles are a unique thing to add to your display.
The main problem with roman candles is that you cannot light only one at a
time in your display. In professional displays they use multiple roman
candles that are lit at the same time. This adds a lot more excitement to
the the display, than if it was just one candle. This section is going to
discuss how to setup the fuse on one of the roman candle racks that we
designed. The rack below was used in my 4th of July display. I had two
racks of 12 Flashing Thunder roman candles, that went off at the same
time. The effect is unreal!

What you need:
Roman candle Rack (Roman Candle Rack 1)
Quick Match of Black Match (All fired at once)
Visco (Fired from one direction to another)
Note: Make sure to properly
secure the roman candle rack to prevent it from tipping over.

This is a variant of our Roman Candle Rack 1. |
Make sure to check on how to connect the different types
of fuse that you are going to be using to fuse your rack together. You
want to make sure that all of your candles properly ignite, at the right
time.
1. Secure the Candles in the Rack - When design
your rack first try to experiment on the different size drill bits you
have available to see which one has the snuggest fit around the
candles that you want to use in the rack. If the candles are smaller
then your smallest bit wrap duck tape around the base of the candle
one layer at a time to get make it tight in the rack.

|
2. Decide what type of fuse to use - The
biggest factor when determining how fast and how many candles you
light will depend on the type of fuse you choose. If you want a
amazing barrage of candles just take one long piece of quickmatch. If
you want a constant firing of candles then use a piece of visco
remember the rate at which visco burn to determine your delay.
You can use a mix between the two types of fuse to speed up or slow
down.

|
3. Attach Roman Candle Fuses to Main Fuse -
First decide which side you are going to light your roman candle rack
on and make sure to give yourself some extra fuse on that side.
Quick Match - When fusing your rack with quick match like the one
above, cut slits in the match wherever you want to put a fuse. Next
tape the slit shut and wrap the tape around the top of the candle.
This will help prevent the fuse from falling out
Visco or Yellow Visco- The best way to attach the roman candles to this type of
fuse is by using masking tape.

 |
4. Attach visco at end of Black Match (optional)
- If you decided to use black match and want to give yourself time to
get away before the candles ignite attach a 3 inch piece of visco at
the end of the black match on the side of the rack you wish to light.
