Roman Candle Rack
Tools needed:
Drill
1 1/4" drill bit |
 |
Materials:
2 - 2x4 18" Long
2 - 1x4 17" Long
4 - 3/4" copper pipe holders.
8 - 1 5/8" screws |
Variations: This rack can be built to accommodate a larger
number of roman candles but making the top and base 2x4 longer by 2
5/8" per each additional candle you wish to add to the rack. The
spacing in this rack is also great for setting up the roman candles in
the rack to form angles like shown in the picture above. |
Directions:
1. Cut the Pieces and Drill Holes
The first step you need to do is cut the boards to the proper lengths.
Now is also time to drill all of the holes for the screws. Measure 3/4" in
and 1/2" down from the long side on both ends of the board. You want a
total of 4 holes drill on each side of the rack.
2. Mark Where to Drill the Holes
We got the sides, base and top now firmly put together on our rack. We
need to mark the spots where we will be drilling the holes for the roman
candles. Start at one end of one of the 2x4s, measure every 2 5/8".
3. Drilling the Holes
To make sure that your holes on the top and base of the rack line up
use a vice to hold the top and base together while you drill the holes for
the roman candles. Use the 1 1/4" drill bit and drill all the way through
the top and partly into the base. Be careful not to drill all the way
through the base. Once all of the holes you want are drilled, unscrew the
vice.
4. Finishing the Base Holes
Now it is time to level the holes for the base. You want the holes in
the base to be about a 1/2" deep to make sure that candles won't jump
around.
5. Connecting the Sides to the Base and Top
The next step is easier if you have a vice to hold the base and top in
place while you screw in the sides. When screwing in the sides place
the screws through the holes on the 3/4" copper pipe brackets. This will
help save the number of screws and make the rack sturdy by attaching the
brackets securely to the the 2x4.
6. Painting the Rack (Optional)
To hide the rack from people during your display, you should paint the
rack flat black.
7. Loading the Roman Candles
With this rack all you have to do is slide the roman candles into the rack
and attach the fuse if you are fusing the entire rack. If you are
single firing the roman candles then you are done.
